mom’s house, mom’s rules…

It doesn’t matter whether you’re 8, 18, or 48, when you’re staying at mom’s house, it’s her rules.

Rule #1: The seat goes DOWN! No problem, I’ve been doing that for more than a decade.

Rule #2: No hour long showers. Again, no problem, as I’m not gay.

Rule #3: You might get dinner. You are on your own for breakfast and lunch. Again, no problem. I’ve been living on my own for 27 years.

Rule #4: You mess it up, you clean it. Umm, yea.

Rule #5: Feel free to consume any food in the house. I don’t see why this is a rule, but she’s my mom, so.

There you have it. Five simple rules to follow. And as you can tell, I don’t have a problem with any of them.

Teh Rental…

The rental for this trip was a 2008 Chevy HHR LS version. With a 2.4 liter engine and power everything. After 4200 miles, I can say it’s a sweet ride. It performed very well for a 4-cylinder with an automatic. It looks great and is very comfortable. I had no back pain and my carpal tunnel was non-existent.

Teh Rental

The only digs I have are:

  • There is wind noise at about 65. A whistling from the drivers side mirror.
  • The automatic transmission doesn’t allow one to drive in “D”. The constant down shifting from overdrive is annoying. Especially in mountain passes when I like to go into “D”.
  • When using the remote to unlock the vehicle, the horn blasts twice. With no way to defeat it. I checked many forums to find a way and there is none. Not even a trip to the dealer will defeat it. Nothing like announcing to the world, my car is unlocked.
  • As is typical with front wheel drive cars, the torque steer during a down shift is a bit more pronounced with the 215/50/17 tires. It can be a hand full at 75, but if one is prepared, it is handled easily.
  • The window controls are on the console between the driver and passenger. This makes it a chore to open the driver’s side window at the drive-thru windows.

At less than $20,000 in this configuration, it’s a steal and a dream to drive. None of the digs are deal breakers in my book. I’d buy one in an instant if I desired.

You only hurt the one you love…

You only hurt the one you love. The other day, I was chatting with some friends when the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with said she had bat land on here head, in her office no less. This loving, caring person believes in the Wiccan philosophy. My ignorance and stereotypical attitude toward this led me down a path that I should not have taken. Suffice it to say. I hurt her deeply. Very deeply, to the core of her existence. She has had some horrible stuff happen to her in the past and my ignorance just brought that shit bubbling back to the surface.

My dear, I am sooo very sorry. I now know that I hurt you very deeply. And only because you told me. I am a man after all, and understanding women is not my greatest strength.

I can only hope that she can find it in her heart to forgive me. I also hope that our relationship is strong enough to survive this. But, what I want is irrelevant, it’s what she wants that matters most to me. I would have gladly given my heart, my life, my very existence to be with you forever. But now, everything we had, everything we experienced together, the love, the trust, the caring for one another is now just fucking gone. Just because I was ignorant.

My God, I feel like such an ass.

I’m gonna go cry in my pillow now.

The city of Angels…

This will be the first time I have ever actually stayed in L.A. I have been through here twice and both times traffic sucked. This was to be no different. I was in stop and go traffic from I-405 all the way to the exit for the Wilshire Grand Hotel.

I stopped along the way and met with Darrel Grisham in Nipomo, CA. He had his stream up so we chatted with my friends on the Wyldryde.org IRC network for a couple of hours. Much fun was had by all.

Pismo Beach FTW…

My most favorite place on the planet. Besides western Washington. If I could afford to live in Pismo Beach, I’d move there in an instant.

Crescent City

The weather is nice and the sunsets are fantastic. A very laid back hippie town. :)

The redwoods and beyond…

The winding road from Grant’s Pass to Crescent City is very fun to drive in a sports car. The weather cleared enough to get some pics from the beach in Crescent City.

I made it to Santa Rosa this day. Eureka is a nice little town.

The second leg…

The drive to Grant’s Pass was in and out of the rain. After stopping for lunch, I missed most of the rain. There was a short snow shower after I checked into the motel. The hills around Grant’s Pass were covered in snow. And I really didn’t need to see the “Snow Area: carry chains or tractions tires” sign cuz the rental didn’t have either.

I was going to California, wtf do I need snow tires for?
