drupal is still annoying…
My first attempt to install drupal resulted in a “500″ error. Luckily, I have seen this before. Upon deleting the .htaccess file, installation was a success. Ok, now, why do “I” have to add a /files folder and chmod it to 777? You would think that the developers would be kind enough to supply it with the install files and simply add an index.html file to it. Apparently, drupal Quality Assurance had the week off.
Now to attempt something easy, like, oh maybe changing the default theme color. Easy…how about impossible… HELLO, does anybody test this stuff??? Oh wait, it actually did write the files.
ok, fine, I will now remove the ice pick from my back.
/me deletes drupal, no wait, I can’t, apache owns some of those files.
I don’t think I should have to logon via ssh to remove files.
stupid drupal…

so sad…
To all of you that have lost your furbabies, my heart goes out to you. I hope who or what ever that cause this is found quickly. The Menu Foods Income Fund has taken a beating. And rightly so.
It is unfortunate that our critters have been allowed to suffer at the hands of an unnamed supplier. I hope that Menu Foods and this supplier are held accountable for this, at least, an act of negligence. All of the people and critters that suffered due to this must be made whole. I hope the $40,000,000 loss turns into triple that. If you still hold any shares in that fund, I suggest you get out while there is still some value left. You can get back in after the it hits the bottom.
I fear the toll will be in the hundreds, if not the thousands.
Thoughts and prayers to all.

rain and updates and plugins…
Since we have had a record for November rainfall, I have been staying inside alot lately. It’s nice to not have to go down to Pier 4. This has also given me time to update and plugin to google adsense as fish don’t move when the rivers are flooding…again.
During the past few weeks I managed to validate the blog code and CSS, and updated to version 2.0.5. I have also added the Coppermine and AdSense-Deluxe plugins. It appears cpg is going to 1.4.10.
Recently, I set up a Zen Cart at showdisk.com. A commercial site that I can pedal my wares around and give some others the chance to get the exposure. Storage is the only real thing that is keeping me from opening an online auction service using a consignment system. Here is the AdSense Sidebox for Zen Cart.
Here is the e107 AdSense plugin. Registration is required. Coming soon to davidprentice.com.

garage/shop/studio…
I should be able to get the shop open to the public for about $3,500. Part of that is for the garden shed. I really need to get the roving pile of dirt out of here.
I think I can be open in January, sans carpet and display cases. I have almost everything I need to record audio and video to hard drive except for some quality microphones and a mixer. My only stipulation is for six balanced microphone connectors.
The wiring is nearly complete. I will have about 36 drops around the perimeter. With 20 20A circuits, 4 30A circuits, I should be warm enough in the winter. The 30A circuits are for the Cyberpower PR-3000 battery backup. At this point the weakest link is the cable modem. Although I haven’t had to reset it in a while, it can go through a phase of unreliability.
I have a bit of framing and decking to do to finish the rough-in. After that it’s plumbing. Bleh. The spendy part of this is the tankless hot-water heater. Last time I checked it was $750 for the setup I wanted. I think I will use the white ABS in 3/4″. I have most of the valves for this and the ABS is pretty cheap. Then we are into finishing the insulation, sheetrock, paint, and carpet. I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel.

so long suckers…
The SSGN Conversion is coming to an end. We have 20 people left on the project and the CVN-72 is starting up. I have a window of TODAY to get laid-off. I just couldn’t help myself.
I am no longer employed by Todd Pacific Shipyard. Out on my own again. This is a welcome break to the hectic pace involved in building warships. At the peak we had 175 people employed on the project with 4 managers and a Q.A. dude. I was one of the 4. I would like to thank Denny Rasmussen for the opportunity to serve aboard a one-of-a-kind construction project. Also, props out to Jeff O’Day, Torey Hansen , Brent Arnold, and Dale Samples for putting up with Electric Boat’s shit.
Most of all to the craftsmen and women that stepped-up and performed magnificently under the most stressfull conditions imaginable, thank you for making it interesting.
Now, where’s my fishing gear???

a passing grade…
I took and passed the four sections of the state’s Life and Disability Exams today. I was alloted five hours to complete the sections. I used two and a-half of that. I have already prepared the package to send off to the home office. I just hope is doesn’t take long to get this approved. I went over to Brent’s afterwards to meet with some of the others in the company. The hard part with this whole deal is getting licensed and registered. It’s all gravy after that. I also need to submit a U4 the NASD. That package is about sixty pages. Bleh.
Edit: I received approval eight weeks later. Oh well.
Traffic was a nightmare trying to get there. It was slow from Gig Harbor all the way to Fife. A typical Saturday. Luckily, I am an old pro when commuting is involved. The hydroplane races will be held on Lake Washington tomorrow. Along with an all-day airshow featuring the Navy’s Blue Angels. Vacations to Seattle should be taken the first week of August.

career change…
After meeting with J.D. and Brent today, I have decided to join them. I could not pass up a chance to get my ass out of the Todd Rat Race.
Let the training begin.
Soon I will be licensed to sell insurance, securities, and mortagages. And most importantly, giving people an education in finance so that they can make up their own minds. After all, if someone cannot understand something, I do not want to make them feel uncomfortable with their decision.

grand opening…
After spending many hours reading the detailed documentation, I have decided to open the #games channel on the Wyldryde IRC network.
Enemy Territory is free, and easy on older equipment. Download and install E.T. v2.6, and ET Pro v3.2.4.
Unreal Tournament 2004, on the other hand, will require a bit more recent hardware. Grab the Mega Bonus Pack (contains the latest patch), Community Bonus Pack Two Volumes 1 & 2, and, make sure that you are patched up to v3369.
Now for the other 3mbps connection. : )
