Ten years ago today

courtesy biggovernment.com

I distinctly remember where and what I was doing that day as so many others do.  Who couldn’t?

I had worked the night before on the USS Abraham Lincoln as I had been for a few months.  Usually, I came home about midnight and spent some time decompressing before going to bed.  Little did I know what I would wake up to.

Ten years ago today.

I got out of bed about 9am, that is three hours behind the East Coast.  Turning on the television I was taken by surprise at the images being broadcast.  Fire, mayhem, cowardice, courage, and bravery were all on display.  I thought it was a movie playing on every news channel.  It took some time for me to realize that the United States had been attacked by a nameless foe.  Attacked by some cowards that care nothing about life.

Getting on base that day and in the subsequent days was a PITA.  Most of the gates were locked, there were hands on check of bags, and the eerie silence of the night sky.

It is too easy to draw the parallels between Al Qaeda and the Japanese Empire of WWII.  The only major difference is that the Japanese had honor, they only attacked what could be used to attack them.  The similarities are many.

They thought we were too weak to respond, they were wrong.

They thought we didn’t have the stomach to send our brave men and women into battle, they were wrong.

They thought the American People would not support the troops, they were wrong.

Ten years ago today.

A group of strangers united and voted on what to do.  Should they submit to terror or will they take action?  They voted to act.

I will never forget the last thing those brave men and women said over the airwaves, “Let’s roll”.  And we did.

more plugins

I have installed some plugins recommended by the Lockergnome himself Chris Pirillo.

Also needed for the WP Touch iPhone Theme are

The Admin Drop Down Menu combined with the latest Admin Management Xtended pluins make navigating the admin area of wordpress a joy instead of the click fest wordpress users have been forced to attend. We can now edit tags and categories from the miss named post or page “manage” page. Now that wordpress has the tags on a post or page basis, I need to go ALL the way back and tag ALL of the previous posts.

HOORAY!!!

plugins update

I have the latest versions of the following plugins installed and working in WordPress 2.5.1:

The following are a fail:

  • Google Analytics for WordPress, doesn’t show the code. Probably theme related.
  • Anarchy Media Player (AMP), kills the “kitchen sink” button and it’s buttons don’t show in the Visual Editor.

No workie no linkie. That is all.

so it begins…

I picked up the U-Haul yesterday and loaded the heavy stuff. I’m off to Seattle today to pick up the rental car. My back is killing me and Mike is being a fucking retard. Nothing but whining and complaining. Oh, and he’s drinking. Just what I need. I sooooo hate this.

Only one more day of this shit.

The new year…

A look back:

  • What was your biggest triumph in 2007? Not having to work at a regular job. I had accrued enough resources and had a plan in place to do so.
  • What was the smartest decision you made in 2007? To find someone to spend the rest of my life with. She knows who she is. :)
  • What one word best sums up and describes your 2007 experience? OMFG
  • What was the greatest lesson you learned in 2007? People will do want they want when they want to. Despite my best efforts.
  • What was the most loving service you performed in 2007? Being there for family and friends in there time of need.
  • What is your biggest piece of unfinished business in 2007? Getting my professional licenses in the western states.
  • What are you most happy about completing in 2007? Getting my Series 6 and 63 with Finra
  • Who were the three people that had the greatest impact on your life in 2007? In no particular order, first, my business partner, Brent Arnold, next my mom. We are both beyond the grind of the working world. And, then, the most important one. Our relationship is still in it’s infancy, but will grow into something spectacular. You know who you are sweetie.
  • What was the biggest risk you took in 2007? Not going back to a full-time JOB. JOB = Just Over Broke.
  • What was the biggest surprise in 2007? I actually made a cross-country flight and didn’t puke.
  • What important relationship improved the most in 2007? I made the time to get to know my immediate family, again. But, getting to know someone new and very special was clearly the most important.
  • What compliment would you liked to have received in 2007? Have you lost weight? :D
  • What compliment would you liked to have given in 2007? You look great. :D
  • What else do you need to do or say to be complete with 2007? An ending is only a new beginning.

A look forward:

  • What advice would you like to give yourself in 2008? Get committed.
  • What is the major effort you are planning to improve your financial results in 2008? Get busy with the business of helping people.
  • What would you be most happy about completing in 2008? Moving out of this small place, and into something that I don’t have to walk sideways through.
  • What major indulgence are you willing to experience in 2008? L.A. in March baby…yeah.
  • What would you most like to change about yourself in 2008? I need to expand my comfort zone to include that special someone.

  • What brings you the most joy and how are you going to do or have more of that in 2008? The look on someone’s face when they see what I can do with their finances.
  • Who or what, other than yourself, are you most committed to loving and serving in 2008? She knows who she is. :D
  • What one word would you like to have as your theme in 2008? Commitment.

College Bowlcard 2007 pt 1

There are 32 college bowl games this year with eleven dudes vying for the title. As usual I have gone against popular opinion. I have 5 games on my own, and in 5 other games I stand with someone. At this point I am 4-2, with East Carolina beating Boise State with a last second field goal. Everyone else had Boise State. NOOOBS.

One of my teams, Florida State University, has suspended 34 players for cheating on a final exam.

kthx >:

Just the crap man…

It’s always fun anytime I have to replace a sewer line. The failure was due to incompetent craftsman.

Root Cause

It’s been a crappy week.

The crew at Hemley’s were great. They crawled all up it that stuff to repair the failure. I had the crew put a tee in to tie the shop in to the septic. Apparently, the shop has it’s own gray-water tank. Lucky me , I have two systems.

Hooray >:

Novacaine…

About two months ago I started having an intense pain in the last of my wisdom teeth. Suffice it to say, ouch. Three weeks later I went back for a cleaning and a comprehensive checkup. For the first time in MANY years. I was delighted to see the latest ultrasonic cleaning device. This cleaning was easy and painless as water was the cleaning agent. My x-rays were good. And since I had taken care of my teeth, I have had only one cavity, ever. Just now.

I just had my next appointment to get the cavity filled, another filling put in, and one tooth sealed. This cleaning went below the gumline. Again, ultrasonics were employed. For this cleaning I was given a mouth full of Novocaine. I love that stuff. I had a bit of discomfort later that day, nothing a couple of Advil couldn’t take care of.
