The Celebration

Today we had the Celebration of Lorraine’s Life. The food was prepared by Marie and Julie. A feast for sure. The guests numbered 50, just as we thought. I cleaned the yard and snapped a few pics before the guests arrived. Notably, Lorraine’s sister, Peachie, her son Steve from Seattle, and her daughter Vicki from Arizona were here. A lot of people from the Kitsap County Courthouse were in attendance. And lots of friends. I saw some I haven’t seen for decades. All in all a good night considering.

The Brothers

The Olympic Mountains are formed on the Olympic Peninsula in Western Washington by the Cascadia Subduction Zone. On a clear day they dominate the western view from Seattle. Some days, like this one you can just reach out and touch them. They are all that stand between the Pacific Ocean storms and the Pugetropolis.

The Brothers

This picture was taken from a park on the Port Washington Narrows off of Tracyton Beach Road in East Bremerton.

Teh Pheasant…

I’ve been trying to get an up close and personal photo of the resident male pheasant.

The Pheasant

This is the best so far. He’s really skittish, I can hardly open the door without him running off.

ocean shores…

Ocean Shores is sort of a resort community located on the North Shore of Grays Harbor. If you have ever seen Erik Estrada pitching real estate in Washington, this is it. It’s about a three hour drive to Seattle.

Mt Hood

Mt. Adams looms in the distance.

why I live here…

One of the most spectacular views in Western Washington.

Overlooking the Longbranch Marina in Pierce County. About 30 miles south of the homestead.

Blake Island…

I capped this because of the shot of Blake Island. While mudslides may have national security implications. They are of no consequence to the residents of Kitsap County. This shot looks east across Puget Sound from the hillside community of Manchester. South Seattle is somewhat visible in the background.

just plain wet…

Are we having fun yet? I just had a flash/bang go off. That was almost on top of the place… Closest NWS data. NWS Seattle Radar. Thunderstorms are a bit of a rarity around here. Although we do see some strong storms on occaision.

Seattle Lightning Wettest November

Back during the construction boom of the eighties, I had the opportunity to stand on the spot of the strike on the Washington Mutual Tower. Formerly known as “Block 5″, and then “1201 3rd Avenue”. The Space Needle is on the right.

so long suckers…

The SSGN Conversion is coming to an end. We have 20 people left on the project and the CVN-72 is starting up. I have a window of TODAY to get laid-off. I just couldn’t help myself.

I am no longer employed by Todd Pacific Shipyard. Out on my own again. This is a welcome break to the hectic pace involved in building warships. At the peak we had 175 people employed on the project with 4 managers and a Q.A. dude. I was one of the 4. I would like to thank Denny Rasmussen for the opportunity to serve aboard a one-of-a-kind construction project. Also, props out to Jeff O’Day, Torey Hansen , Brent Arnold, and Dale Samples for putting up with Electric Boat’s shit.

Most of all to the craftsmen and women that stepped-up and performed magnificently under the most stressfull conditions imaginable, thank you for making it interesting.

Now, where’s my fishing gear???
